Justin Taylor, B Eng., P.Eng.

Principal, President, Senior Project Manager

Justin is an experienced project manager and mechanical engineer with over 18 years’ experience in industries associated with large scale, multidisciplinary capital engineering projects in the chemical & minerals processing industries. His experience includes project managing, engineering, and design of the full project life-cycle, from conceptual study through to commissioning and operations. Additionally, with his broad range of experience, Justin is often requested by financiers to evaluate projects as part of their due diligence team.

Justin has been involved with international projects since 2004, mostly in remote and inaccessible places requiring significant logistical planning due to physical and weather related constraints. He has worked on projects throughout North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Africa, across a wide variety of commodities.

Prior to founding Halyard, Justin held the position of Senior Project Manager and Head of the Design Office at DRA Americas. Justin was instrumental in the successful growth of the company. Justin’s strong project management and technical skills, combined with his entrepreneurial drive to ensure client satisfaction is how he leads his team to deliver projects on time and on budget.

MANOJ PATEL, B ENG., P. ENG.

Project Manager

Manoj is an experienced Professional Mechanical and project engineer with over 10 years’ experience in the mining and metals industry. Embracing the “fit for purpose” maxim, Manoj has been instrumental in the successful completion of numerous studies and the execution of fast track projects while keeping costs within budget.

Prior to joining Halyard, he held the position of Project Engineer at DRA Americas in Toronto, Ontario and Mechanical Engineer at Vale (Inco) in Thompson, Manitoba. He has experience working with several commodities and industrial minerals such as gold, nickel, iron ore, diamonds, zinc, fluorspar and graphite.  His experience spans several countries including Canada, Russia, Brazil, Greenland, and the United States.

Manoj is a graduate of McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, where he earned a B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering. He is a registered professional engineer in Ontario.

CLAUDIA BLUTEAU, B SC., M ENV., ENG., ING.

Project Engineer

Claudia is an experienced building services Professional Engineer registered with the OIQ with over 10 years’ experience in multidisciplinary engineering projects across several industries in Canada and abroad. Her experience includes technical design and managing projects in hydraulics, environment, automation, HVAC, and environmental engineering as her engineering training spanned across civil and mechanical engineering.

Claudia has been involved with construction projects since 2009 locally and abroad, often in remote areas like an Agro-technopark in rural China and wastewater treatment plants in Northern Alberta.

Prior to joining Halyard, Claudia held a mechanical building services engineering position with WSP in New-Zealand. Claudia’s wide array of technical skills across several fields makes her an asset for large multi-disciplinary projects and smaller fast-track projects across the commodities spectrum.

SEAN REID, B ENG., P. ENG.

Lead Engineer

Sean is a Lead Professional Mechanical Engineer with over 9 years’ experience in the overall engineering process from conceptual design through to detailed engineering and commissioning; including overall plant layout and design, calculations, developing technical specifications, packaging of both mechanical equipment and construction contracts in the mining , minerals processing and materials handling fields.

Sean has worked on the successful execution of a number of large EPC/EPCM projects including the Natougou Gold Project, Santa Rosa Gold Project, ISAL Aluminium project in Iceland, AMMC Port Cartier Expansion (Canada), Koniambo Nickel, Ranger Brine Concentrator and Dalrymple Bay CT7X (Australia).

Sean is also experienced in the preparation of Pre-Feasibility and Feasibility Reports (NI 43-101) for Precious and Base Metal Projects, having worked on both warm and cold climate Projects for Mining Clients in Australia, Canada and South Africa.

GRACE SO, BASc., P. ENG.

Project Engineer

Grace is a Professional Engineer with a process/metallurgical background and over 10 years of operations and engineering experience in the minerals processing and extractive metals industry. She has worked on projects in North America, South America, Asia, Africa, and Australia. Her focus is providing technical support to the Halyard team across the life cycle of projects including areas of pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, engineering, logistics, and commissioning support.

Prior to joining Halyard, Grace held progressive metallurgist roles supporting operations in Canada and Australia with Glencore. Her project management and on-site experiences include process optimization, troubleshooting, metallurgical/production accounting, change management, predictive maintenance, feasibility studies, and plant and lab test/survey programs. The projects encompassed areas of comminution, flotation, dewatering, materials handling, logistics, smelting, emissions reduction, sampling, and geometallurgy.

Grace takes various approaches to data analysis to provide insight and work with operations teams to identify, develop, and implement effective strategies for operations and maintenance improvements.

Grace is a registered Professional Engineer in Ontario, and a member of CIM and PDAC.

LOUIS VENTER, B ENG., Pr. Eng. (RSA)

Project Engineer

Louis has a B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pretoria and has worked as a Project / Mechanical Engineer for 14 years. He started his career as Junior Engineer with Anglo American where he obtained a Government Certificate of Competency in Minerals and Mining, working in production and maintenance. His career path led from operations to projects focusing on consulting, project management and execution as part of multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Previously employed by DRA Mining in South Africa as a Project Engineer, his project experience entailed executing projects from conceptual studies through to executing turnkey projects for both junior miners and multinational corporations in the mining and industrial sectors. Louis worked on various studies and projects in Coal, Platinum, Gold and Rare Earths commodities throughout Africa.

In his current role, he forms an integral part of a project execution team at Halyard. His role involves working hand in hand with the Client to ensure workable cost effective solutions.

JIM SCHAMING, BASc., MASc., P. ENG.

Project Engineer

Jim is a bilingual (English/French) dynamic Mine, Hydro-Metallurgical and Mechanical projects Professional Engineer with over 10 years’ experience in project engineering, project management, mechanical systems, mineral processing, mining, risk management, financial management, onsite construction experience, research and development.

Jim works collaboratively, develops and lead teams, effectively works with and manages all stakeholders such as contractors, senior management, government agencies, local community groups, operations personnel, and technical and office staff.

Some of Jim’s past work experience and notable achievements include design, fabrication, construction and commissioning of crushing plants and DMS plants.

RALPH COX

Design Office Manager

Ralph has 31 years of engineering experience as a Senior Designer, Checker, Section Leader and now Design Office Manager at Halyard. He has a clear understanding, knowledge and multi-disciplined experiences in the engineering and mining environments whereby his services have been utilized in the design and construction project phases.

He has worked extensively in the layout, design and detail of Greenfield as well as Brownfield projects internationally. His career along with his determination and passion for the job has given him the opportunity to work in: Africa, Australia, Asia and Latin America and on some of the world’s leading mining projects.

Apart from the Drawing Office environment, Ralph also has extensive site construction experience where he interfaced between the client, project manager, design office, contractors and constructors.

Specifically, Ralph has experience with the following commodities: Coal, Copper, Diamonds, Uranium, Manganese Arc Furnaces, Pulp and Paper, Oil and Gas, Graphite, Gold, Modular Plants, Mineral Sands, Platinum, Iron Ore Mine and Ports, Power Stations and Structural Steel Buildings.

Cliff Stuart

Lead Layout Designer

Cliff has +40 years’ experience as Designer, Checker, Section Leader & Design Office Manager in a variety of Projects requiring his multi-disciplined abilities. Strong points are Plant Layout in 2 & 3D, as well as Structural, Platework & Piping arrangements & detailing.

Cliff has worked on major projects in Mining, Sugar Milling, Power Stations, Water Treatment, Oil & Gas. He was employed as Field Engineer on Sasol 1 Renovation & Mossgas oil from gas projects in South Africa.

He has extensive experience in projects involving the following minerals: Coal, Diamonds, Platinum, Gold, Heavy Minerals Sands, Iron Ore – in various countries such as Canada & South America, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Botswana, Russia & Lesotho.

Cliff’s employment has required him to work in UK, Africa & Canada.
